Stomach ache

What is a stomach ache?

A stomach ache is simply pain in the abdomen, which can be connected with a burning sensation, bloating, nausea or even vomiting.

What causes stomach aches?

A stomach ache can be triggered by:

  • Gastroesophageal reflux, when some of the contents of the stomach come back up into the oesophagus.
  • A peptic ulcer, when digestive juices destroy the stomach wall or the duodenum.
  • Gastritis, an inflammation of the stomach’s mucous membrane caused by a bacterial infection or anti-inflammatories.
  • An upset stomach caused by high-fat meals.
