Borborygmus

What is borborygmus?

You probably know borborygmus by its more common name of rumbling. It refers to the noises caused by gas trapped in the intestines or in the stomach.

What causes borborygmus?

Rumbling can be caused by swallowed air or by the gas produced by breaking down food. Some diseases can also cause these noises.

Does hunger trigger rumbling?

Hunger can trigger rumbling as your digestive tract makes room for the food that is going to arrive. The intestines produce noises as they empty out.
