Touch with your hand and mouth

How does our sense of touch work?

Our sense of touch uses mechanoreceptors to inform us about the shape, size and texture of food. These mechanoreceptors transform physical stimuli into electrical impulses that are then transmitted to the brain.

What roles do the mouth and tongue play?

Your mouth and tongue provide a lot of information about the size of food, as well as if its texture is smooth, grainy, soft or hard.
